Sierra Northern Railway Names COO

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Brenton A. MacDonald has been elevated to vice president and chief operating officer at West Sacramento, Calif.-based Sierra Northern Railway, which provides transportation, rail-served real estate, and railcar storage services. The company has rail operations throughout California. 

MacDonald joined the company in 2013 and served most recently as its general manager. He has held positions as manager of safety & training, as well as conductor and engineer. MacDonald previously was employed by Union Pacific Railroad at Hinkle, Oregon, as manager of locomotive maintenance. 

In his new position, MacDonald is responsible for working with the railroad’s customers, engaging in new business development and contract negotiations, working with senior leadership at Union Pacific and BNSF, overseeing railroad operations for West Sacramento, Oakdale, Concord, and Ventura divisions, as well as aiding in railroad maintenance and construction activities. He will report directly to Sierra Northern CEO Kennan H. Beard III. 

The Sierra Northern Railway (reporting mark SERA) is a common carrier railroad company operating in 

California. The company owns several rights of way originating from those of the former Sacramento Northern Railroad, Northern Electric Railway, Sierra Railway Company of California, Western Pacific Railroad, and Yolo Shortline Railroad. It handles all freight operations and track maintenance for its parent company, the Sierra Railroad Company. The tracks that are maintained by Sierra Northern are also used by the Sierra Railroad Company’s tourist trains.
