FAIR OAKS, CA (MPG) – After a tough day at the Bronco WC Folkstyle Wrestling Tournament at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks on Sunday January 15th, some Gladiators went home bruised but not broken, and others rose from the mat victorious.

The Gridley Gladiators Youth Wrestling program, lead by Joe Ruggirello, participates in multiple out-of-the-area tournaments to expose his wrestlers to new experiences and at times very tough opponents.

That was the case with the Bronco WC meet, where nine traveled south to compete. Coach Ruggirello says, “It was a humbling day for a lot of wrestlers on the team.” He continues, “This was the most upbeat tournament that we have been to thus far. With so many great wrestling clubs in attendance, the Gridley Gladiators fought hard all day long! When the dust settled, 4 of the Gladiators were left standing, going home with medals.”

The four of the nine athletes that placed included Jax Terrell, Emmett Burns and Brady Rogers, all placing 2nd in their respective weight divisions. Clairyssa Watkins would also place, bringing home a 3rd place medal.

Other members of the program would travel to the Jr. Nor Cal Elementary Round Robin Tournament in the northern section.
