GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – Monday, December 12th at noon, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church held a special mass honoring the Day of the Virgin Guadalupe, followed by its annual parade.

Each year, on this day, the Catholic Church holds a procession through the downtown area of Gridley in honor of the day that the Virgin Mary was believed to appear in 1531.

Dressed in sequined gowns and peacock headdresses, the Danza El Tepeyac de Williams dancers and drummers joined the procession this year with a stunning display of dances. Ms. Niria Bandilla was crowned as this year’s Queen Guadalupe. The 16-year-old Bandilla said that it was an honor for her to be part of the celebration.
