GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - A caravan of flashing red and blue lights, chirps, sirens, holiday music and “Ho, Ho, Ho’s” announced the approach of Santa as he toured Gridley last week.
On two not-so-silent nights, Mr. Claus was assisted by Gridley Fire Department/CALFIRE and Gridley Police Department as he made his way through the community. Sunday, December 11th, Santa kicked off his tour of town heading through the north and western areas of the community and then on Monday, December 12th, he made his special visit to the southern and eastern portions of town.
Retired Gridley Police Officer and now City Councilman James Roberts cleared the streets on his motorcycle, the herald of the approaching fleet of engines and police vehicles. At least three engines, including Gridley’s state-of-the art Ladder Truck 74, and 3 police vehicles made up the group. Unfortunately, on Monday evening, Ladder 74 was pulled away from the group to respond to a call.
Santa sat comfortably atop Fire Engine 374 on his sleigh, the truck adorned with lights, his jolly voice calling out to children and families lining the streets, braving the cold to wave at the holiday heroes and St. Nick.
This tradition began during the COVID-19 Pandemic and has grown to become a special part of Gridley’s small-town holiday celebrations.
