WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - On Saturday, November 19, the Yolo County Children’s Alliance (YCCA) hosted their 17th annual Community Giveaway Day event at their Family Resource Center in West Sacramento. This event served 657 families in need, providing them with turkeys, Thanksgiving meal kits, winter resources, and coats for every child who came through the gate. As a region, Yolo County has seen an increase in families facing food insecurity and homelessness, and an influx in refugees arriving with limited support and basic resources. The increase in need this year was expected, and thanks to community partners, YCCA was able to provide support and celebration to the most families ever in the history of this event.
Community Giveaway Day is more than just a resource event: it’s an opportunity to empower the community and support their resilience. The families who attend Community Giveaway Day often are a part of Yolo County’s most underserved communities, facing increased economic and sociocultural stressors. YCCA’s mission for this event remains focused on creating a celebratory event that empowers families and brings the community together.
“Access to essential resources, like food, clothing, baby supplies and healthcare, reduces stress in a household, increasing the capacity for families to create safe and nurturing homes. Community Giveaway Day, thanks to our partners and funders, is a catalyst for YCCA to provide those concrete supports to those who need it most in our community,” said Jeneba Lahai, Executive Director of the Yolo County Children’s Alliance. “Community Giveaway Day is a one-of-a-kind event, and it’s because of the hours of preparation the YCCA team puts into it, and the dollars and supplies collected from funders and partners. This event truly emulates the passion behind our mission as a premier non-profit in Yolo County: to strengthen and empower families in our community.” The efforts brought to the community by YCCA make a positive impact on the lives of so many families. YCCA is focused on strengthening and empowering communities in the region and providing concrete resources in times of need is a tangible way to make a difference in the lives of so many.
For the 2022 Community Giveaway Day event, the Yolo County Children’s Alliance was able to convene more partners and organizations than ever before.
