BIGGS, CA (MPG) – With B Street decked out in Old Glory, stars and stripes seen in almost every direction, Biggs held its annual 4th of July Parade.

This year the community turned out in droves to support the hometown parade, a strong showing of support for Biggs 4th of July community events, especially in the wake of the loss of Biggs fireworks show.

With 50 entries, the parade itself was “huge” says co-organizer Kari Wheeler, and the crowd even larger, spanning all the way down Biggs main drag from 7th street to 2nd street without gaps. Free American Flags were passed out to those that lined the parade route, while supplies lasted, giving everyone the chance to join in the patriotic spirit of the event.

The Henry C. Veatch Camp 30 Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil war kicked off the parade providing the honor guard. The crowd saluted the flag while Wheeler sang the National Anthem beautifully. Following behind on the parade route were members of the Miss Butte County Royal Court, Biggs Mayor Bo Sheppard, Butte County Supervisor Tod Kimmelshue and various entries spanning from the Butte County Sheriff’s Department, local ministries, the Knights of Columbus, businesses, classic vehicles and trucks, music stations, racing groups, school groups and of course, CALFIRE Units.

Flags weren’t the only thing flying. Candy was in no short supply as most of the entries treated the crowd to handfuls of it. Children rushed the streets trying to get their hands on the sweet stuff.

As the last entry made its way down the parade route, wrapping up the event, the community dispersed with smiles on their faces, having genuinely enjoyed this year’s parade.

Wheeler says, “It takes a team to put such a wonderful parade together.” Many volunteers and of course, community participation, made the Biggs 2022 4th of July Parade such a success. Wheeler extended thanks the following: Vickie Harrison, Kayla Wheeler-Dunlap, Ricki Donnahoe, Rob Hall, Whitney Hall, the Dows, Brian Harrison, Travis Smith, Josh McLean, Brian Bassett, Biggs Cheerleaders and the Miss Butte County Scholarship Program, Perry Stair, the City of Biggs, Biggs City Public Works, Paul Pratt and crew.
