WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - West Sacramento is a vibrant community. It’s host to a wide range of amenities and businesses, including the A’s and River Cats, Raley’s corporate headquarters, California Highway Patrol Academy, the scenic Sacramento River front and River Fox Train, and a diverse and growing population.

Although not incorporated as the City of West Sacramento until 1987, its roots lie in the Gold Rush era of the 1840s. As a result, West Sacramento has a long history by California standards, whereas the new League of Women Voters of Yolo County is just three months old.

The League of Women Voters Yolo County arose from the merger of the Leagues of Women Voters of Woodland and Davis Area with the goal of supporting all residents in Yolo County. Together, the combined league comprises more than 100 years of experience.

The League of Women Voters Yolo County looks forward to meeting and working with key members of organizations in West Sacramento, such as the City Council, Chamber of Commerce and Washington Unified School District.

For those unfamiliar with the League of Women Voters, it is a nonpartisan political organization comprised of men and women who encourage informed and active participation in government, work to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and strive to influence public policy through education and advocacy.

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote civic engagement, League of Women Voters Yolo County recently hosted its annual State of the Community luncheon during which Board Supervisor Lucas Frerichs, who represents southwestern parts of Yolo County, spoke about the many challenges and opportunities facing all of Yolo County at this time.

In addition to civic engagement, League of Women Voters Yolo County supports voter registration and education for youth and adults, including distributing nonpartisan information to voters on the voting process and ballot measures. It also hosts candidate forums for local, county and state elections, and conducts comprehensive studies into and takes positions on topics that impact Yolo County residents, such as climate, housing, public safety and healthcare for education and advocacy purposes.

The League of Women Voters Yolo County looks forward to learning more about your exciting community and how we can together support our beloved democracy. Visit our website at lwvyolo.org to learn more.
